An extraordinary performance at the St Mary's stadium resulted in Manchester United producing one of the Premier League's greatest comebacks yet this season. The Red Devils, having gone into the break with a two goal deficit, returned and snatched the win via a 3-2 scoreline to set a new record in the competition.
The contest could have been less herculean had the visitors been efficient enough in the early minutes. Young forward Mason Greenwood got two glorious opportunities to put his side ahead but was unable to beat Southampton goalkeeper Alex McCarthy on both occasions.
The visitors will soon rue their missing chances as set-piece master James Ward-Prowes will add to his assist record by setting up Jan Bednarek from a corner in the 23rd minute. 10 minutes later, the Southampton skipper got on the scoresheet by bagging another one of his trademark free-kicks.
United were hit with a double whammy then with David de Gea picking up a knee injury in his attempt to stop the ball. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was forced to reshuffle his pack at the break, bringing on Dean Henderson for his first-choice goalkeeper and replacing Mason Greenwood with Edinson Cavani.
Indeed, it did not take long for the latter to get in and inspire a remontada, assisting Bruno Fernandes to score Manchester United's first goal in the 59th minute. The Uruguayan international will then take matters into his own hands and head home the equalizer in the 74th minute before scoring the eventual winner in the second minute of additional time.

Having completed the turn around, Manchester United extended their away winning run in the Premier League to eight - becoming the first club to ever achieve the feat in the history of the competition. They are also the first side in Premier League history to win four consecutive away games despite trailing in each of those fixtures.
On an individual basis, Bruno Fernandes became only the fourth player in the history of Manchester United to score in five successive Premier League away games. Ruud Van Nistelrooy (2002 and 2003), Robin Van Persie (2013) and Ibrahimovic (2017) are the only three players to have achieved the feat.
Relatively, Edinson Cavani became only the second Manchester United player to both score and assist a goal after coming on as a substitute in an away Premier League. He joined Ruud van Nistelrooy on the list, with the Dutchman achieving the feat against Charlton in September 2002.
