Cavani sent off in CONMEBOL WCQ after nasty tackle

WATCH: Cavani sent off in CONMEBOL WCQ after nasty tackle vs Richarlison

November 17, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
The Uruguayan striker will now miss the clash against Argentina when the Qualifiers resume next year.

Things did not go as planned for Uruguay in their last FIFA World Cup Qualifying match of the year, and their frustration was embodied by none other than Edinson Cavani.

The Manchester United player was not able to make his presence felt on the scoreboard, which was quite frustrating for La Celeste. To make matters worse, Cavani ended up being sent off after he stepped on Richarlison's right ankle while looking for the ball.

Initially, ref Roberto Tobar had booked Cavani, but VAR officers asked the referee to have a closer look at the action. Tobar would eventually send Cavani off due to the harshness of the tackle.

Cavani was sent off for the second time in 118 games with La Celeste. The other one came in the 2015 Copa América after the infamous incident involving the player and Gonzalo Jara. Now, Uruguay will be facing one more problem when the Qualifiers resume, since Cavani will not be around for the crucial clash against Argentina.
