The Turkish outfit defied the odds to grab their first win of the season in the competition.

Istanbul Basaksehir staged a remarkable performance to make history in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions league clash with Manchester United. The Turkish club defied the odds to secure a 2-1 win over the Red Devils, a result which saw them land their first-ever win in the Champions League.

A sloppy start by United handed the hosts the opportunity to be in the driving seat after opening the scoring in the 12th minute. Having dominated possession early on, the visitors - who were playing a very high line - were caught and exposed on the break with Demba Ba latching onto a long clearance inside his own half and racing all the way to slot it past Dean Henderson.

Basaksehir's second goal came in the 40th-minute and could also be attributed to poor defending on the part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men. The Turkish outfit exploited the spaces at the back of their opponents with Demba Ba assisting Edin Visca to smash double their advantage after the defenders were thrown off once again.

Manchester United had the opportunity to pull one goal back shortly after through Anthony Martial and could have snatched a late draw had it not been for a last-ditch goal line clearance Alexandru Epureanu. In effect, the Red Devils picked up a second successive defeat in all competitions after coming into the European tie off the back of a defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League.

For Istanbul Basaksehir, the pair of goals scored against Manchester United was their first-ever in the Champions League in their 30-year existence.
