The Nerazzurri will be without one of their most influential players after he failed to recover from injury in time for the Santiago Bernabeu trip.

Inter Milan are gearing up for their crucial UEFA Champions League showdown with Real Madrid. The Italian giants will visit the Spaniards on Matchday 3 of the 2020/21 season in what is the standout fixture of the upcoming round.

The Nerazzurri are without a win in Europe so far this season, drawing with Borussia M'gladbach in their opening game before sharing the points once again, this time with Shakhtar on Matchday 2. Similarly, their opponents remain in search of their first three points of the season, kicking things off with a defeat and a draw, thus increasing the importance of Tuesday's encounter.

Unfortunately, the Serie A outfit look to be without one of their star players. That man is none other than Romelu Lukaku, the club's talisman forward who unfortunately looks set to miss this one out due to injury.

The 27-year-old was facing a race against the clock to be fit for the Santiago Bernabeu visit. As previously reported, the former Man Utd ace picked up a muscle injury in the draw with Shakhtar, thus making him a doubt for the Real Madrid clash. Conte's side were hopeful he would recover but according to Marca, the striker hasn't recovered nor has he recovered.

This will be a huge blow to Inter Milan as the Belgian ace has been is, as mentioned earlier, their top scorer with seven goals under his belt so far this term. It will be interesting to see how the Italians cope in Lukaku's absence and how Lautaro Martinez fares without his partner.

It is not all bad news for Conte's side. Alexis Sanchez, who was also a doubt for this game, is set to make the trip to the Spanish capital. Additionally, Milan Skriniar, who was out after contracting COVID-19, has recovered and should be back for the midweek fixture.
