Preview: Roma vs Fiorentina
Both Roma and Fiorentina will be looking to close down the gap on the top for - especially they Giallorossi - when they square off at the Stadio Olimpico this Sunday. With Sassuolo, who burst out early from the gates and charged towards the top of the pack facing a very tricky test against Napoli at the same time as this match, there is certainly a golden opportunity for either Roma or Fiorentina to potentially find themselves much closer towards the European football places.
Roma will be quite disappointed with their showing in their midweek Europa League fixture, as it certainly was a game they should have won. After being the first team to nick points off league leaders AC Milan, who are having an outstanding campaign in Serie A, they ended up stuttering in a draw scoreless draw with Eastern European outfit CSKA Sofia. That has blocked them from having a great chance from going top of their quartet after picking up a hard fought 2-1 win over Swiss side Young Boys on matchday one, but Paulo Fonesca's side can get things right this upcoming week when they host yet another Eastern European team, Cluj on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Fiorentina finally ended their three game winless streak by battling to a 3-2 win over Udinese, and followed that up with a crucial 2-1 win over Calcio Padova in the Coppa Italia. It hasn't been an easy season for the Viola, but they are hopeful of improved fortunes due to the emergence of players like Gaetano Castrovilli, who has scored four times in his last six games across all comps. However, the Tuscan side have not enjoyed trips to the Eternal City as of late, where they've won just twice in recent times (in 2012 and 2018).
