Messi's future at Camp Nou still uncertain

Barcelona presidential candidate issues whopping take on Messi's potential exit

October 28, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
Jordi Farré, one of the most outspoken candidates for the Blaugrana hotseat, did not shy away when speaking about when and how 'La Pulga' can leave the club.

With Josep María Bartomeu gone from Barcelona, Lionel Messi's future is one of the main topics of interest all candidates will try to address if they want to win the election next year. One of those candidates spoke to TyC Sports, revealing a shocking but nevertheless interesting take on that subject.

Presidential candidate Jordi Farré admitted that watching Lionel Messi leave the club is something that most people are reluctant to think about, but the candidate admitted that giving Leo a chance to say goodbye to his boyhood club could do wonders for the player's relationship with the institution, and according to his plan, it would pave the way to work with Messi for years to come.

"I think that we have to create an open contract for him to call it quits whenever he feels like it. We'd be delighted if he asked us to let him play one year for Newell's and then come back. We have to be thankful for everything Messi has given this club," Farré said.

Farré stated that his team will start working to have a meeting with Jorge Messi, so that the player's father knows first-hand what the board led by Farré will attempt to do with him around.

"We will not wait until we win the election to contact Leo's father. We will work ASAP on that because we want to win the election with the certainty that he will stay. We have planned a great scenario for him on the long run. If we win, something I believe we can do, Leo will stay involved with the club for as long as he wants," Farré added.

Before the interview concluded, Farré added that money will not be a problem when Messi negotiates his future both on and off the pitch.

"He has to be the team's image as an honorary president or as an ambassador, all we want to do is to put some money in his pocket. We want to unite the Barcelona brand to Lionel Messi's brand, but I will get into more details with him. We think it's a great project that could turn Messi into the new Michael Jordan," Farré concluded.
