It was a good day at the office for the Foxes and their talisman.

Jamie Vardy has equalled a record set by Lionel Messi after his goals inspired Leicester City to a massive win over Manchester City on Sunday. The 33-year-old striker scored a hat trick to fire the Foxes to an emphatic 5-2 away win over the former Premier League champions.

Former Leicester winger Riyad Mahrez broke the deadlock to pave the way for the high-scoring encounter with a beautiful finish inside the fourth minute. However, parity was restored ahead of the half-time break thanks to Jamie Vardy's spot-kick.

In the 54th-minute, the former England international gave his side the lead with a cheeky backheel finish before earning another penalty and converting for his hat trick after being fouled in the box by Eric Garcia.

Substitute James Maddison put the game out of Man City's reach with a spectacular long drive from outside the box in the 77th minute. Nathan Ake then redirected Mahrez's cross home for City's second in the 84th minute. A third penalty by the host - this time resulting from Benjamin Mendy's challenge on Maddison - gave Youri Tielemans the chance to take the scoreline to 5-2.

In retrospect, Jamie Vardy's tally against Manchester City saw him match Lionel Messi's record as the only player to score a hat trick against a club managed by Pep Guardiola for the second time. The English striker is the only player to manage the feat on two occasions after the former put three past Bayern Munich at Camp Nou in October 2016. He is also the first-ever to do so on the home grounds of the team managed by Pep.
