Martínez's future edges closer to Inter stay

Lautaro Martínez's agents deny alleged deal with Real Madrid

September 14, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
The Argentine ace has been linked with both Los Blancos and Los Blaugranas this summer, but the footballer could stay put at the Giuseppe Meazza.

Fans around the world were about to be fooled by fake news, but Lautaro Martínez's agents stepped up quickly to set the record straight on the star's future.

Earlier today, Sport Mediaset in Italy reported that Martínez and his agents had reached a deal to see the striker joining Real Madrid this summer. The report stated that Los Blancos would pay Inter a bit over $100M in a cash-plus-player move, which would also see Luka Jovic making the trip to Italy.

The deal seemed to work out for everyone involved, but the main problem in it was that there was never any discussion of the sort between Martínez's agents and Real Madrid. In fact, hours after the article emerged, Martínez's agent Beto Yaqué was spotted leaving Giuseppe Meazza Stadium after a meeting with Inter's top execs, and he took the chance to dismiss his client's departure to any of La Liga's top clubs by adamantly stating that Lautaro Martínez will not leave Inter in quite a few years.

"Lautaro is going to stay at Inter. There was never a meeting between us and Real Madrid representatives," Yaqué stated.

The agent also revealed that Barcelona, Real Madrid, or any other club interested in his client's services will face an uphill battle to see him leaving the nerazzurri, as a contract extension with the Italian side is already in the works.

"We just paid them a courtesy visit today. We did not talk about either Barcelona or Real Madrid. What we really talked about was a contract extension for Lautaro. We will pick that up once the transfer window shuts down," Yaqué added.

The 23-year-old striker was involved in 31 goals for Inter in all comps this season (21 goals, 10 assists). While he is seen by many as the top prospect to fill Luis Suárez's boots at Camp Nou in the near future, the chances of watching him as a Blaugrana player seem to fade away with each passing day, especially since the Catalan club has unsuccessfully tried to reach a deal with their nerazzurri counterparts.
