Los Blancos need to get rid of eight players still under contract to face the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic.

Real Madrid's strategy of not spending any money during this transfer window has to do with the effects caused by the global coronavirus pandemic, but in order to keep their finances in line, the Spanish side must sell some of their high-priced assets.

Recent reports in Spain suggest that Real Madrid needs to sell at least eight players to keep a healthy financial record and to lower their salary expenses. Teams around Europe have learned about their need and some have started negotiations to lure one or two players to their club houses.

According to reports by As, La Gazzetta dello Sport and La Repubblica, Lazio is one of the first teams to get in touch with the Spanish giants to ask about two footballers who will have almost no chance of showing their worth under Zinedine Zidane. Those players are striker Borja Mayoral and midfielder James Rodríguez.

Mayoral spent the last two seasons on loan at Levante, where he managed to score eleven goals in 58 games. The player has also been linked to Valencia, but given the team's recently reported financial problems, the former Real Madrid Castilla footballer would approve a transfer to the Serie A side.

As for James Rodríguez, the Colombian ended an abysmal season under Zidane, and with one year left in his contract, Los Blancos are desperate to let him leave the club and cut their losses. The South American player was limited to 14 games, with one goal and two miserable assists for the all-white side.

While negotiations for Borja Mayoral are reportedly underway, the possibility of adding James Rodríguez to the team's roster is still under consideration. Be that as it may, a double move would benefit each club's needs if the right price is set.
