Chelsea set two unwanted records in Bayern defeat

Chelsea set TWO new unwanted Champions League records in Bayern Munich defeat

August 8, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The Blues took a seat at the wrong side of history after shipping a lot of goals in Saturday night's encounter.

Chelsea ended their Champions League campaign on an unpleasant note following Saturday's loss to Bayern Munich. The Blues found themselves setting two new unwanted records in the European competition after suffering a 4-1 defeat to the Bavarians inside Allianz Arena.

Ahead of the clash, Frank Lampard's brigade had a two-goal deficit to overturn in Germany as they had suffered a 3-1 loss in the first leg at the Stamford Bridge. However, Bayern Munich's exhilarating form meant that the job will be almost impossible.

Such was the case for the London club who had to fight from behind in as early as the 10th-minute, with Lewandowski scoring the opening goal via a spot-kick. 14 minutes later, the Polish striker assisted Ivan Perisic for Bayern's second before Tammy Abraham pulled one back for the visitors on the stroke of half-time.

A 76th-minute tap-in by substitute Corentin Tolisso out the game out of reach for Chelsea before Robert Lewandowski sealed a five-star performance with another strike to take his tally in this season's competition to 13 in seven outings.

For Chelsea, the aggregate scoreline to Bayern meant that for the first time in the club's history they have conceded seven goals in a two-legged European cup game. Also, the 7-1 aggregate defeat is now the club's biggest loss in a two-legged European tie.
