Sarri sacked by Juve after UCL fiasco

Confirmed: Sarri sacked by Juventus following UEFA Champions League fiasco

August 8, 2020 By Oscar Rojas
The Italian boss will leave the bianconeri with a league title under his belt and with the disappointment of fans that supported his arrival one year ago.

Just one year after his appointment as boss, Maurizio Sarri has been sacked by Juventus. The former Napoli and Chelsea boss was fired by the bianconeri due to his poor results with the current Serie A holders, even if he was able to deliver a ninth straight Scudetto for the Italian side.

Sarri's methods were severely questioned throughout his stint with the black and white club. Added to that, the team's results in the Supercoppa, the Coppa Italia, and especially in the UEFA Champions League, forced Juve's hierarchy to part ways with the boss.

In a brief press release, the bianconeri thanked Sarri for his efforts as their coach.

"Juventus Football Club announces that Maurizio Sarri has been relieved of his post as coach of the First Team. The club would like to thank the coach for having written a new page in Juventus' history with the victory of the ninth-consecutive championship, the culmination of a personal journey that led him to climb all the divisions of Italian football," the document states.

The announcement comes less than 24 hours after the team's elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of Lyon, who made it to the last eight round thanks to the away goals rule.

As reported earlier, Juventus have started contract negotiations to hire Mauricio Pochettino, although some of the team's top executives are reportedly interested in hiring Zinedine Zidane as the team's new boss.
