Inter will try to close the gap on league leaders Juventus as they travel to face Roma on Sunday, July 19th.

Preview: Roma vs Inter

Hosts Roma sit in fifth spot, and at this point, are really unlikely to secure a Champions League footbally berth unless something goes catastrophically wrong for the teams occupying the places above them. Although their city Lazio rivals have lost the plot lately and are on a four match winless streak, while the Giallorossi have won three on the bounce, there is still an eight point gap between them and the Aquile, who have slipped from second to fourth in recent weeks. That being said, anything is possible, and Paulo Fonseca's men will certainly want to keep the good times rolling when Inter come to town on Sunday.

Naturally, the Nerazzurri will be much sterner opposition than the likes of Parma, Brescia, and most recently Hellas Verona - the three teams Roma have beaten since they lost to Napoli earlier this month. With a resurgent Milan breathing down their necks, Roma will be hoping not to slip up here, but Inter also have their own hopes of at the very least, staying in the top four. They come into this game having crushed floundering SPAL 4-0 and are unbeaten in their last three Serie A games. Moreover, despite the six point gap, Antonio Conte's side still have a faint glimmer of hope at catching Juventus, who have failed to win their last three games.

In all honesty, the Scudetto race isn't over just yet. Juventus are the definite favorites, of course, but Maurizio Sarri's side have stuttered in recent weeks, and as such, their once comfortable lead has now been narrowed which has given the Nerazzurri, led by Conte, an opportunity to start applying some pressure. Conte, of course, is no stranger to winning league titles, or trophies for that matter, having won several during his time in charge with Juventus, and also winning it during a brief spell with Chelsea, so winning here will certainly make Sarri, who is still seeking his first major trophy in Italy, certainly quite uncomfortable ahead of his own clash with Lazio on Monday.

Team news: Roma vs Inter

Roma: The hosts are all still without Federico Fazio, Antonio Mirante, Chris Smalling and Juan Jesus due to injuries, and Davide Santon is a doubt as a result of ongoing muscular issues.

Inter: Matias Vecino remains out at least until sometime next month, while Stefano Sensi will require a late fitness test to see if he is fit to feature. Nicolo Barella may be able to feature off the bench after seemingly recovered from injury, and Romelu Lukaku is expected to promptly return to the starting XI after Conte decided to give him a rest against SPAL last week.
