The battle to secure European football is on between these two teams with two games of the season left to play.

Match Preview

Leicester City face a daunting task to keep their hopes of finishing in the top-four alive when they travel to London for Sunday's blockbuster clash with Tottenham Hotspur. With the completion of the Premier League season being a little over 180 minutes of football action away, the Foxes will be locked in the first of two games that will invariably shape their immediate future.

The situation needs no telling as the narrowest of margins separate a number of clubs putting in a late fight to creep into the top half of the table. Leicester, just like Chelsea, Manchester United, Wolves and Sheffield United, are all optimistic about the chances of securing Champions League football for next season.

Needless to say, the recent form of the Foxes allows for very little belief among fans of the competition, especially taking into consideration the fact that they will be coming up against a team also aiming to land European football. Indeed, the resumption of the Premier League season has been quite unkind to Brendan Rodgers' men who have won just two of eight games in all competitions since the restart of the league.

Within the period, three games have been lost and draw apiece. But, perhaps, they will be buoyed by the fact that they approach Sunday's trip on the back of a 2-0 win over Sheffield United. That will more or less require Jamie Vardy to keep up his scoring streak with the Premier League Golden Boot well within reach.

For Tottenham Hotspur, rendering the English striker inefficient will be one of the telling tests in the upcoming fixture although they will expect to deliver a strong statement with a win. The North London outfit kept their hopes of securing a slot to feature in Europe next season by grabbing a dramatic derby win over Arsenal in the past week before getting the better of Newcastle United in their most recent outing.

But that is not to that everything has been well with Jose Mourinho's side. Like the opposition they will encounter on Sunday, Spurs have endure a topsy-turvy ride since the restart of the league. Of the seven games they played during the period, the Lily Whites registered four wins, two draws, and one defeat. Two of the wins have come in the last two games for the Londoners, making it the first time since February 2020 that they have managed successive wins in the Premier League.

Depending on the outcome of the FA Cup final, the seventh-placed team in the Premier League could potentially earn a spot in next season's Europa League. However, with rivals Arsenal booking a spot in the final after they had beaten Manchester City in the semis, nothing is guaranteed for Tottenham. A win, on the other hand, will be a step in the right direction.

Team News

Both Dele Alli and Ndombele are ruled out of the encounter through injury. Eric Dier is suspended. Relatively, both Ben Chilwell, Christian Fuchs, and James Maddison will be amiss for the remaining two games of the season, whereas Marc Albrighton's availability remains uncertain.

Caglar Soyuncu will be ineligible to play as he serves the second of his three-match ban after his red card against Bournemouth.
