Los Blancos will aim to maintain top spot when they take on 17th-placed Mallorca on Wednesday.

Match Preview

Real Madrid will hope to retain their status atop La Liga by securing all the three points when RCD Mallorca comes to town on Wednesday. Los Blancos ascended the throne following a slip from Barcelona in their weekend encounter with Sevilla and will aim to keep things as such with just seven games left to play.

Zinedine Zidane's men enter the midweek encounter with an impressive unbeaten run. Following the resumption of the league season suspended as a result of the coronavirus, Madrid has won games against Eibar, Valencia and Real Sociedad. They have scored at least twice in any of those victories.

The current form of the club has been a massive upgrade and parallel to what was recorded in the period before the hiatus. In the last five games played before the league was paused, the Merengues have just one win and a draw, losing the remaining three games.

Needless to say, they will be looking to put in a strong performance to avenge the 1-0 defeat they suffered against Mallorca in the reverse leg. For the visitors, the impressive win October 2019, stands as just one of the seven wins they have managed throughout the season.

Currently sitting in the relegation zone, Vicente Moreno's men have picked up 18 defeats out of the 30 games played so far and rank as the side with the worst away record in the league. They have won just one out of 14 outings, drawing two and losing 11.

The club from Palma approaches the encounter with Real Madrid with a three-game winless run. While a win against Real Madrid could potentially lift them out of the drop-zone, there is not much optimism for an upset to ensue on Wednesday.

Team news

Sergio Ramos' availability remains uncertain after picking up a knee injury in the win over Real Sociedad. Casemiro will also not be available as he is suspended. Jovic's availability is also in doubt despite making a swift recovery from a knock.

Meanwhile, Isco (hamstring), Nacho (thigh), and Lucas Vázquez (calf) are all ruled out as they are recovering from their injuries. For Mallorca, Lumor Agbenyenu and Leonardo Koutris are unavailable as they are yet to recover from long term injuries.

Ki Sung-Yeung is also a major doubt whereas goalkeeper Fabricio Agosto is ruled out of action due to a foot injury.

Real Madrid and Mallorca have met on 57 occasions. The former has won on 36 occasions while their opponents have been victorious on 10 occasions. The remaining 11 ended as a draw.
