It's a clash between two top-four sides as Atalanta welcome Scudetto aspirants Lazio on Wednesday, June 24th.

Preview: Atalanta vs Lazio

Atalanta come into this game having picked up all three points against Sassuolo in a 4-1 win, but it wasn't entirely a comfortable victory for La Dea. Despite their attack performing quite well, their defense was not as solid as Gian Piero Gasperini would have liked, and were it not for the strong showings of shot-stopper Pierluigi Gollini, Sassuolo may have found a way to sneak themselves back into the match.

Next up for the ambitious side, who are also featuring in the Champions League for the first time in their history, is none other than Lazio. The Biancocelesti are having their best domestic campaign many of their fans have seen in quite some time and sit in second place behind reigning champions Juventus in the league table.

Realistically, no one thought that the Aquile, who weren't even in the top four last term would be the team challenging the Bianconeri for the Scudetto, but they've managed to keep up pace, and now that Serie A has resumed action after the pause due to COVID-19, Simone Inzaghi's side will be determined to re-start proceedings on the right foot.

Arguably, Atalanta are their toughest opponent left on the roster - bar Juventus - between now and the end of the season, so if Lazio can get the upper hand over this side, they will certainly set themselves up nicely for the showdown with La Vecchia Signora in about a month's time.

Lazio, however, unlike, Atalanta, who had a make-up game this past weekend, haven't played any live football in months, so it will be very interesting to see if some rust has set in for the team's players. The current front-runner for the coveted Capocannoniere prize, Ciro Immobile will naturally be looking to add to his growing tally of 27 goals as Juve's Cristiano Ronaldo has now closed the gap between the two players to five after scoring La Vecchia Signora's opener against Bologna earlier on Tuesday.

This match will also be quite interesting as the two sides famously met in the 2019 Coppa Italia final - two teams that many didn't even expect to get to the final, with Lazio winning that tie 2-0. The two teams ended up playing out an exciting three-all draw earlier this season and thus it will be quite fascinating to see which side - if any - come out on top on Wednesday.
