Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has come under scrutiny for the role he played in Tottenham Hotspur's first goal in Friday's Premier League encounter. The 29-year-old goalie failed to keep the score level ahead of the first half break, letting a strike for Spurs, Steven Bergwijn to slip through his fingers for the game's opener.

Manchester United's expectation for their first game following the restart of the season was met with a blip with the Old Trafford outfit coming short in the early minutes if their trip to the Tottenham Stadium. Despite dictating and dominating play for the better part of the proceeding, the visitors had all their hard work undone by one quick attacking move by Spurs.

Fans on social media have subsequently been unforgiving towards De Gea, with many suggesting that the Spaniard could have done better in keeping the ball out. So far, the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper has conceded six goals from the last nine shots he has faced.
