Proposed plans to resume the domestic league have been boosted following the prime minister's latest declarations.

Italian football clubs have been granted permission to resume team training from Monday by Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte. The decision is an upgrade to the previous instruction which paved the way for training to be done on an individual basis.

Last week, an announcement by the government enabled clubs to resume training on Monday - the first time since the league was suspended on March 9. However, the clearance came with conditions that encouraged only individual practices and respecting social distancing rules.

On Saturday, the return of the Serie A was handed yet another boost with Prime Minister Conte declaring that teams can now train in full starting on Monday, May 18. At a press conference, he said: "From May 18 retail stores, hairdressers, beauticians, bars, restaurants, pubs, football teams' training sessions, and museums will start again.

"But always in compliance with the regulations and with the control of the Region."

With the league yet to confirm its return date, the latest development comes as good news for the 16 clubs who voted for June 13 as the ideal resumption date during Wednesday's league assembly. The four remaining teams voted for a return on June 20.
