Spanish publication Marca claim to know the date in which this fixture will likely take place.

Europe’s major league have been make huge strides towards returning from the coronavirus-induced suspension, with the Bundesliga resuming this weekend and La Liga, Serie A, the Premier League, and Liga NOS all targeting a return in June. As for the Champions League, everyone’s favorite UEFA club competition, nothing has been confirmed but Marca claim to know when things will get back underway.

According to the Spanish publication, the second leg of the Man City vs Real Madrid clash, one of the four incomplete round of 16 ties, will likely take place on August 07. Given that this fixture was set to precede Barcelona vs Napoli and Bayern Munich vs Chelsea on the calendar, the aforementioned date, if true, would mark the return of UEFA’s premier club competition.

While Marca provide no justification as to why they believe the Champions League will return on August 7, they are not the first publication to make this speculation. It has been heavily reported that the competition is aiming to get things back underway in August, with the domestic league likely to have wrapped up by then.

This mean Zidane’s men will have completed their La Liga campaign given that the Spanish Premier Division commences as planned. The Citizens are the favorites to progress to the quarter-finals given their 2-1 win at the Bernabeu in the 1st leg but one key yet unknown factor will be the fitness and form of the players once the return from the long layoff.

It should be noted that Lyon president recently claimed that a date had been set for Juventus vs Lyon, which was set to take place on the same date as Man City vs Real Madrid. However, the Ligue 1 outfit quickly moved to deny this claim, revealing in a statement that nothing has been decided by UEFA.
