The Portuguese icon was called to return to Turin but his several attempts to head back have reportedly been unsuccessful.

Despite being one of the worst-hit countries, Italy has already granted permission to Serie A clubs to return to training on May 4. Regardless, it looks like the hottest name in the league might not be able to come back for some time.

That man is obviously Cristiano Ronaldo and the reason for this is his private jet is said to be grounded in Madrid. After the Italian top-flight was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner jetted off to his hometown of Madeira, where he has been ever since, and his attempts to return to Turin have reportedly been unsuccessful.

Portuguese TV channel TVI (as per the Sun) claim that his jet is stuck in the Spanish capital due to the country's travel restrictions and thus cannot transport the 35-year-old to Italy. The report claims that three attempts to take off were blocked by authorities.

Had the Portuguese icon arrived in Turin as initially planned, he would have been forced to enter a two-week quarantine in accordance with the guidelines. This means that this latest setback will only further delay his return to the Bianconeri.

The Scudetto holders have called for the players abroad to return – this includes Cristiano – while those who remained in Italy during the lockdown are expected back this Tuesday. Players, however, will not be permitted to train in groups until May 18. As for when the 2019/20 season will resume, that remains unknown.
