The north London clubs might struggle to lure him to the Premier League now.

Arsenal and Tottenham are two clubs in need of new center-backs, and for obvious reasons. For the Gunners, they are in dire need of recruitment in order to solve their leaky defense while Spurs are keen on a replacement for Vertonghen.

One man rumored to be on their radar is Dayot Upamecano, the highly-rated Bundesliga defender who has garnered the attention of Europe’s elites with his displays for RB Leipzig this season. The 21-year-old has been a key figure in Nagelsmann’s young and electric squad, helping them reach the Champions League quarter-finals.

He is both a physical presence and is strong on the ball, making him the ideal player for the Premier League. Unfortunately, the north London giants’ odds of signing Upamecano have been severely dented, with Real Madrid now entering the race for the center-back.

Los Blancos boast two solid, World Cup-winning center-backs in the form of Varane and Ramos. However, the latter is 34 and is nearing the end of his career despite being one of the greatest center-backs of this generation. Here is where Upamecano would slot right in.

According to the Mirror, the 13-time Champions League winners are have tossed their hat into the ring and are ready to sign the RB Leipzig ace in order to secure Ramos’ successor. If true, this would mean bad news for Arsenal and Tottenham as it is difficult for every player to refuse a call from Real Madrid.

The British publication states that his release clause is as low as $62M, which is a fair price given the current market. Upamecano is entering the final year of his contract, which means his employers could be forced to sell for less or risk losing him for nothing in the summer of 2021 bar that contract rules aren’t heavily changed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
