You probably heard or read that the 2020 Olympics Games were called off by the International Olympic Committee on Tuesday morning. The IOC President and the Prime Minister of Japan finally gave in concluding that the competition will be rescheduled sometime between January and July 2021.

This is obviously a hard hit for all the athletes who had earned a spot in one of – if not – the most prestigious sporting competition in history.

These athletes are now challenged to retain their current competitive mindset and fitness through what looks to be a year filled with uncertainty due to the Coronavirus pandemic.

A perfect example of athletes who need to maintain that winning mentality and gifted fitness are those in the U.S. Women's National Team. The Stars and Stripes have not lost a match in over a year riding a 31-game unbeaten streak. And in the process, they defended their title as World Champions at the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Lately, players who were not on Jill Ellis' starting lineup are seeing more playing time under Vlatko Andonovski. Forwards Christen Press and Lynn Williams have proved to be world-class and assets for the ex-Reign FC manager. But the news of the Olympic Games rescheduling has halted the development and form of these player.

Meanwhile, Alex Morgan will see this as an opportunity to get back on the first team and back in-form before summer 2021.

The 30-year-old striker announced that she was pregnant with her first child in October 2019 and is due in April. And of course, Morgan set herself the challenge to be fit and on the USWNT by the 2020 Summer Olympics.

It is March now, and yes, that is her eight months pregnant taking the '10 touch challenge' to the next level with her partner and professional soccer player Servando Carrasco.

Oh yeah, and this is her jogging at a little over eight months.

This level of fitness is a product of her strong mentality and drive to succeed. The USWNT has done a great job in gardening this mentality across its squad, helping them get to where they are today. And Morgan has kept that mentality since day one of her pregnancy.

This is her practicing in January.

This is her practicing with the national team in February.

With April just around the corner, Morgan will have enough time to recover and have more than six months to get her name back on that roster. Most hope that soccer will be back during that time, but it all depends on the global health status.

Anyhow, you all know that Morgan will be doing whatever she can to get the best training in.
