Los Blancos are reportedly looking to terminate their relationship with the former Spurs winger.

La Liga giants Real Madrid are reportedly considering the prospect of releasing Gareth Bale for free this summer, Spanish news outlet Marca has revealed. Despite football being suspended momentarily, Los Blancos are making preparations for next season and, apparently, the Welshman is not seen as being part of the club's future.

Gareth Bale has been at the center of transfer controversies in both the first and second managerial stints of Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane. About a year ago, the former Tottenham Hotspur star was expected to depart for the Chinese league but saw the move collapsing after the parties involved failed to reach an agreement.

Although the player has sporadically impressed, he is yet to stage a consistent run to compliment the staggering transfer fee paid to secure his service Spurs and his massive wages. Having seen his career at the Bernabeu plagued by recurrent injuries, the player has fallen down the pecking order in Zidane's side. Not too long ago, Bale's agent, Jonathan Barnet, reiterated that his client was enjoying his stay in amid and is more than eager to see out the two years left on his contract.

However, on Tuesday, Marca revealed that Real Madrid is looking to cut its loses by releasing the Welshman this summer in order to lighten the burden on their wage structure. According to the report, the club has prioritized Bale's departure as they aim to bring in more competent talents. Even more so, after January 2021, the Welshman will occupy a non-EU spot due to Brexit, a situation which has facilitated the Meregues' decision to part ways with him.

Currently, the 30-year-old winger costs the former European champions 17 million euros every year. He has scored just three times in 18 appearances across all competitions this season.
