Liverpool has usurped Premier League rivals Manchester City to become the most valuable club in the world, according to a CIES Football Observatory report. In the analysis made by the research group, the Reds topped the rankings with an aggregate value of 1.4 billion euros, with five other clubs also having their squad valued over one billion.

Monday's report by CIES Football Observatory focused on how clubs from the five major European leagues ranked in terms of squad valuation. According to the newsletter, the study "took into account 20 players with the highest values as per the algorithm exclusively developed by the CIES Football Observatory research team."

Here, current Champions League holders and Premier League leaders Liverpool were adjudged the most valuable with the worth of its worth standing at a staggering 1.4 billion euros. Former leader of the chart, Manchester City, settled for second position with a squad valuation of 1.3 billion euros while Lionel Messi's Barcelona completed the top three with 1.17 billion euros.

Owning to the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo for Juventus in 2018, Real Madrid's squad value has dwindled significantly but Los Blancos were left to occupy fourth position with a valuation of 1.1 billion euros. Relatively, its former superstar's Bianconeri side ranked 10th with a squad valuation of 783 million euros despite boasting the host of other top players in their ranks.

Meanwhile, Premier League pair Chelsea and Manchester United completed the top five with their respective squads valued at 1 million euros apiece.
