The Polish striker enter the competition's history books with the night's feat.

Bayern Munich star Robert Lewandowski matched a Champions League record set by Cristiano Ronaldo with his heroics in Tuesday's win over Chelsea. The 31-year-old Polish striker was off the mark once again as his side cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Blues in the Round of 16 first-leg tie at Stamford Bridge.

In what was a solid performance by the Bavarians, Lewandowski announced his presence by assisting Serge Gnabry to score two goals in quick succession in the early minutes of the second half. He sealed the night's work by tapping in a cross from Alphonso Davies in the 76th-minute to hand his side the needed advantage going into the second leg.

As a result, Lewandowski took his goal tally in the Champions League to 11 - the most he has managed in a single UCL campaign in his career. He concurrently became the first player after Cristiano Ronaldo to score nine away goals in the competition in the same campaign. The Portuguese superstar set the record in the 2013-14 season where he won his first championship with Real Madrid.

Relatively, the former Borussia Dortmund striker joined an elite company with his exploits at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday. Per the Champions League's records, he has now tied with Real Madrid's Karim Benzema in fourth-place on the all-time top-scorers' list with 64 goals. Currently, only Cristiano Ronaldo (128), Lionel Messi (114) and Raul Gonzalez (71) have more.

Robert Lewandowski has now scored  38 goals in 32 appearances for Bayern Munich in all competitions this season.
