PSG and Man City top the list while the study brings bad news for Barcelona and Man United.

The annual Soccerex Football Finance 100 report is out and it reveals the world’s most financially powerful club in the world, with French giants PSG leapfrogging Man City into the number one spot on this list.

Given the criteria for rating a team’s financial prowess, it comes as little surprise to see Les Parisiens at the top. The study takes into consideration “factors in five key financial variables – playing assets, tangible assets, cash in the bank, potential owner investment and net debt”.

An FFI score is allocated to each side based on the aforementioned aspects, with the Ligue 1 champions earning 5.318. In second is the defending champions of England Man City with a score of 5.197.

The reason why the French giants moved ahead of the Citizens is that while the Etihad Stadium’s side’s debt level increased by more than $97.6M, PSG’s decreased by $75.5M. In third spot on this list is Bayern Munich with a score of 3.888.

Tottenham (3.441) come in fourth while Real Madrid (3.336) move a spot up to wrap up the top five. The top 10 is dominated by the Premier League, with half being English top-flight clubs. Besides Man City and Spurs, Arsenal (3.150) in sixth, Chelsea (2.893) in 7th, and Liverpool (2.616) in 8th are the others on this list. Juventus 9th (2.195) and Borussia Dortmund 10th (2.154) are the last two names in the top 10.

Two European heavyweights have dropped out of the top 10 and they are Barcelona and Man United. The Catalan giants are down five spots in 12 while the Red Devils find themselves behind bitter rivals Liverpool with an FFI score of 1.743 due to the “depreciation in squad value, tangible assets, and cash levels” on top of an increase in debt.
