Even though he tried to avoid controversy, Ernesto Valverde left no stone unturned when he referred to the Catalan outfit.

Ernesto Valverde's exit from Barcelona saw the team's supporters rejoice, but things have continued to be complicated for them despite Quique Setién's arrival. Even so, the former boss had evaded the spotlight since he was sacked, but he chose to step out of the shadows at the Bilbao International Football Summit 2020.

Valverde, sporting a beard, discussed a variety of topics trying to avoid controversy, but he ended up discussing his exit from the Blaugrana side after being eliminated from the 2020 Spanish Super Cup.

"I don't want to think about how I was sacked. I shouldn't. I have to turn that page. We know that we as coaches are responsible for everything that happens, we are responsible if the ball hits a player on the butt and then goes in," the coach sarcastically answered.

Valverde's new look surprised those in attendance.

The coach referred to Barcelona's "Tiki-taka" philosophy, while also seemingly aiming a dig at the current Culé boss, Quique Setién.

"Dominating a game does not mean you have to control the ball for 80% of the game. You have to get your players in front of goal and avoid the other team from doing the same," Valverde added.

After living and breathing that philosophy for over two years, you'd expect Valverde to have embraced Barcelona's culture and legacy. Nevertheless, the coach nicknamed Txingurri referred to Athletic Club as his most beloved club.

"Athletic has something really strong. There's a work ethic within that's so special and comforting for all the people around, it's one of the best things I've seen and coaching there is one of the highlights of my career," Valverde concluded.

The former Blaugrana boss admitted that he will not take another job immediately, but he is yet to decide how much time he will spend waiting for another opportunity.
