Atletico Madrid have reportedly received a huge boost ahead of their Champions League showdown with Liverpool. The Spanish giants looked to be without a fit senior striker for this game but could welcome back one man in time for that clash.
According to Cadena Ser (as per the Daily Mail) that man is Diego Costa. The Spanish forward has been sidelined since November after suffering a herniated disc injury and was initially expected to be out for the remainder of the season.
However, that might not be the case, with Cadena claiming that after returning to full training, he is now well on his way to start that February 18 showdown. This will be great news for Los Rojiblancos, not only due to their poor form but also because of their injury crisis in the attack.
Simeone’s side, who are winless in their last five games and currently outside of the top five in La Liga, are currently without marquee summer signing Joao Felix due to injury. Furthermore, Alvaro Morata is a doubt for the clash with Klopp’s crew.
While Diego Costa was not in the best of forms prior to his injury in November, scoring only twice in 15 games this season, his familiarity with English teams could prove vital. The 31-year-old spent four successful seasons in the Premier League with Chelsea, winning two league titles, and could prove a tough man to handle for Van Dijk and Co. if he can return to his best.
