The Reds are currently 18 points away from winning the league this season.

Premier League leaders Liverpool made a bit of history following Tottenham Hotspur's triumph over Manchester City on Sunday. A 2-0 win at home to Jose Mourinho's side ensured that the Reds maintained a 22-point margin after 25 matches - the most established by any club at any stage of top flight English football.

In Sunday's epic encounter which had its fair share of drama and controversies, it was Spurs who broke the duck in the second half through new boy Steven Bergwijn following Zinchenko's 60th-minute red card. The former PSV star grabbed his first goal with his first Premier League shot in the 63rd minute after Ilkay Gundogan had squandered a spot-kick in the first half. Inside the 71st, Heung-min Son inflicted more misery on the visitors and put the game out of their reach with his side's second.

The significance of the win was that Tottenham Hotspur has usurped both Sheffield United and Manchester United to occupy the fifth position and is now just four points off fourth-placed Chelsea's tally of 41. The outcome of the day's fixture also meant that, Liverpool with its 73 points, now has the biggest margin at any stage in top-flight English football with its closest challenger Man City sitting in second with 51.

On the contrary, the Citizens boss Pep Guardiola hit a new career low with his sixth loss in the Premier League this season. Prior to Sunday's defeat at the Tottenham Stadium, the Spanish manager had never lost more than in his entire managerial career, tying with the 2016/2017 campaign. Also, he has now lost to Jose Mourinho (6) and Jurgen Klopp (9) the most in his managerial career as no other manager has won more than three matches against him.
