Report: Mbappe to Liverpool still a possibility despite Real Madrid links

January 28, 2020 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The French striker has been heavily linked with a move to the Spanish league outfit but a move to the Premier League is now seems likely.

Paris Saint-Germain superstar Kylian Mbappe could force a two-way battle between Real Madrid and Liverpool should he consider leaving his current side, a new report has revealed. The 21-year-old French striker has long been tipped to join Los Blancos but would apparently stall his dream move to Spain should the Reds coming knocking in the near future.

Having idolized Real Madrid greats Zinedine Zidane and Cristiano Ronaldo throughout his career, it is largely perceived that Mbappe's future somewhat lies at the Santiago Bernabeu. Indeed, the former AS Monaco prodigy has often endorsed the narrative with words of endearment for Madrid albeit PSG still maintaining that he remains vital to the clubs ongoing project and is not for sale for any price.

So far, the World Cup winner has refused to sign a new long term deal at the PSG and is set to see out his current contract which will expire in 2020. While the French outfit risks losing one of its biggest assets on a free, Zinedine Zidane's Real Madrid will be hoping to capitalize on the situation.

Nevertheless, according to French journalist Julien Laurens, Los Blancos are likely to enter a tug-of-war with Liverpool for the service of the striker. In a statement to ESPN, he reckoned that the Premier League champions-elect could convince Paris Saint-Germain to sell Kylian Mbappe by meeting the club's 253 million pound valuation of him or stick to an alternative payment method.

"It's pretty simple. If Liverpool can pay the £253m, or £295m with bonuses, and put that on the table – which is what PSG will ask anyone to sign Mbappe.

"If Liverpool can afford that, plus give him the wages that he wants, he will consider that offer every day of the week.

"Yes, Real Madrid is his dream and one day there is a certainty that he will play at the Bernabeu.

"But he's only 21 so there's plenty of time for him to go and play in Madrid one day.

"The fact is that he also would like to play in the Premier League one day too.

"Liverpool is a very attractive proposition for any top player in the world right now with what they are putting together and the project of Jurgen Klopp.

"But again, if they can't put that money down on the table for an offer, there's no way he could go there."
