The biggest women’s London rivalry is just days away and it just makes sense to analyze and share the biggest stats that both these title contenders have shown off during this FA WSL season.

Arsenal and Chelsea have enjoyed close-to-flawless seasons with the Gunners sitting a-top of the FA WSL table with 33 points while Chelsea lags by only four points in third place with a game in hand.

The North London club eclipses almost all its competition in terms of statistics with the most points, most goals (35), least goals against (5, tied with Manchester City), best goal differential (+30), most assists (26), best clean sheet percentage (66.7, tied with Manchester City), best goal per shot percentage (.18) et al. But there is one thing Chelsea has that Arsenal doesn't and that is a win in the FA WSL's biggest derby.

Arsenal fell to Chelsea at Kingsmeadow in Matchday 4 of this campaign, 2-1. That time out, the Gunners dominated possession as they tend to do scored in the first 10 minutes of the match. The Blues kept their heads up and found the back of the net twice in the second half via Beth England and Maria Thorisdottir to upset the winningest team in England. The stats spoke a million words at the end of the match.

Arsenal would have most of the possession with 59% and 83% passing accuracy but struggled to get clear chances against Emma Hayes' defense. Chelsea's backline delivered the most impotent defensive execution against allowing only seven shots and three on target making it Arsenal's worst offensive performance of the season. The Blues also delivered constant blows as the game went on ending the match with 22 shots, six on target and two goals – no other team has had more shots, shots on target or goals against Arsenal this season – further defying the power of the glorified league leaders.

So why is Chelsea in third place? Despite giving Arsenal the best fight of the season, the ladies in blue dropped points in two away fixtures in Brighton & Hove Albion at the start of the season and Liverpool at the cups of the year. Nonetheless, Chelsea's statistics are not far from those held by the North London club.

In terms of numbers, Chelsea is the only undefeated team so far with nine wins and two draws and has amounted to 30 goals, seven goals against, 20 assists, 29 points, 2.73 goals per match, 1.82 assists per match, 36.4 clean sheet percentage and .781 save percentage. Compare that to Arsenal's numbers and the difference is dim.

The Blues' game in hand will be a chance to propel them closer to the title if they can find an away win on Sunday at Meadow Park. Also, this will be Sam Kerr's biggest challenge so far as a Chelsea footballer, but the real battle will be between Dutch striker Vivianne Miedema and England who lead the league in goals with 14 and 9 respectively.
