The awards ceremony will take place next month in Berlin.

One of the world's most prestigious awards is the Laureus World Sports Award, and this year, the list of nominees includes four member of the football family.

Lionel Messi leads the pack with his seventh nomination. The Argentine returns to the list of nominees for the first time since 2016, and he will be gunning for his first award of the sort. He was also nominated in 2006, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016.

Next up is Megan Rapinoe. The icon for women's football picked up her first nomination thanks to her exploits in the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup. She will be up for the award against three of her compatriots, Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka and Jamaican sprinter Shelly-Ann Fraser-Price.

The Team of the Year Award will be sorted out between Liverpool and the USWNT. Both teams stood out in 2019, and they will try to beat some stiff competition to earn the award. The Toronto Raptors, the Spanish National Basketball team and the South African Rugby Union Team are some of the contenders for this prize.

Last, but not least, Liverpool will also try to win the World Comeback of the Year Award, thanks to their UEFA Champions League semi-final win against Barcelona. This is their second nomination in this category, after being up for the award in 2006 following their 2005 UEFA CL triumph against Milan.
