The Red Devils look to dive into the transfer market due to the absence of McTominay and Pogba.

Man United are keen on strengthening their squad this month in order to avoid missing out on the Champions League once more and have thus rekindled their interest in a highly-rated midfielder.

That man is none other than Bruno Fernandes, the Sporting CP ace who came close to a Premier League move over the summer. According to the Daily Mail, the Red Devils have revived their interest in the Portuguese talent and have even met with his agents.

The 25-year-old’s representatives were in London to sit down with key Man United executives, including Ed Woodward, and the Sporting CP president. The Premier League giants’ interest in the player comes as little surprise as the recent injury to Scott McTominay and Paul Pogba’s absence and uncertainty has left Solskjaer short on options.

Man United are eyeing a $72M bid for Fernandes, with the report adding that a few players heading in the opposite direction in a swap deal. The Daily Mail failed to mention any names likely to be offered in part of this deal, however.

Sporting CP aren’t easy to negotiate with but the Red Devils are hopeful of getting a deal over the line. Fernandes is one of the highest-rated players in the Portuguese top-flight as he is both a proven goalscorer and assist maker, scoring 13 and setting up 13 in all competitions this season for his club.
