The Italian tactician has heavily been linked with an Old Trafford move but that might not work out now.

The calls for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacking have only grown in the past few weeks, with fans demanding the club appoint a decorated boss to succeed the Norwegian. Massimiliano Allegri ticks that box and the Red Devils have been linked with him on numerous occasions but according to recent reports, they look set to miss out on the Italian.

The 52-year-old called an end to his successful spell at Juventus over the summer, guiding the Old Lady to five consecutive Scudetto titles before parting ways. As a result, he has been linked with an array of European giants such as Bayern Munich, Arsenal, and Man United. A move to Old Trafford was a safe bet but according to Gazzetta dello Sport, Max looks set to be headed elsewhere.

Massimiliano Allegri, AC Milan, Serie A

The Italian newspaper claim Allegri is being scouted by AC Milan, with the Serie A outfit scrambling to return to their glory days. The Rossoneri, who last won an Italian top-flight crown back in 2011 when they were led by none other than Allegri, eye the former Juventus tactician in a Sir Alex Ferguson-esque role.

AC Milan are currently 12th in the league under Stefano Pioli and are looking to switch things and naming Allegri to spearhead an project of rebuilding. Just like Man United’s legendary Scottish tactician, the Italian side are reportedly hopeful that Max could usher in an age of dominance.

This job could suit Allegri. The manager has enjoyed tremendous success in Italy and a return to San Siro would see him land a top job in a league he knows best. As for Man United, they would have to look elsewhere for an Ole successor if they decided on axing the Norwegian.
