Salah was accused of being disrespectful for snubbing the award show.

Mohamed Salah was a no-show for Tuesday’s CAF Awards gala as Sadio Mane was crowned the African Player of the Year after his remarkable season for Liverpool. The Egyptian ace was accused of showing disrespect for snubbing the ceremony but what nearly went under the radar was the jibe he threw at his own country’s FA.

The former Roma ace has clashed with the Egyptian football federation on several occasions, with things heating up between the player and organization due to incidents at the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Furthermore, the 27-year-old is against several decisions made by the FA including their stance on sponsorship.

During the CAF Awards, which was held in Salah’s home country, the Egyptian FA were awarded the prize for best federation of 2019. Salah, who remained in Liverpool, reacted to this announcement by posting a picture of his daughter laughing with the caption “and the award for the best federation goes to…”.

As for Mane’s achievement, while many criticized Salah of being bitter at seeing the Senegalese ace beat him to the prize, he was quick to congratulate his team-mate on social media.
