After their three-game winless run in the league, drawing with Norwich before losing back-to-back ties against Man City and Liverpool, Leicester have now returned to winning ways. The Foxes have won their last three matches, beating West Ham, Newcastle, and most recently Wigan in the FA Cup ahead of their League Cup showdown with Aston Villa.
Speaking of Aston Villa, their form has been mixed. One day, the Villans would put in a lovely performance and then go on to lose their following match. As a result, the newly-promoted side have exactly three wins and three defeats from their last six games.
These two sides have already faced off in the Premier League this season but prior to that, there had been no encounter between Leicester and Aston Villa since January 2016. The Villans have failed to win any of their last three clashes with the Foxes (D1, L2), last beating them in February 2015.
Games played: 99
Leicester wins: 42
Aston Villa wins: 33
Draws: 24
Aston Villa have shown moments of magic in the Premier League, with Grealish, in particular, impressing in the top-flight. However, they have been inconsistent, hence why the newly-promoted side sit one spot above the relegation zone.
Fortunately, the away side will welcome back the likes of Grealish and Mings to the squad after resting them in the FA Cup. However, that’s where the good news stops.
The last time these two sides met was in the last month and that fixture did not go down well for Aston Villa. In that December 2019 clash, Leicester won 4-1 convincingly.
Vardy, who scored a brace in that victory, is tipped to miss this tie due to a hamstring injury, which is great for Aston Villa. However, they will need a brilliant performance to progress.
