The London club will be without their stalwart in the upcoming cup tie.

Tottenham Hotspur has been dealt a major injury blow with star striker Harry Kane ruled out for the weekend's clash with Middlesbrough. A club statement on Friday revealed that the English forward has had a tear in his left hamstring.

Kane was in action for Spurs as they fell to a surprise 1-0 defeat away to Southampton in the New Year's Day fixture but could not last the full 90 minutes after sustaining a knock. A subsequent review by the medical team confirmed the extent of the 25-year-old's injury although there was no timeline disclosed for his potential return.

"Following assessment today (Friday), we can confirm that Harry Kane suffered a tear in his left hamstring during our New Year's Day fixture against Southampton," a club statement read.

"Our medical staff will continue to review the injury with treatment ongoing."

Rest assured, the attacker will have no role to play in Sunday's trip to Middlesbrough and on Friday, he took to Twitter to issue a message of assurance to his fans.

Meanwhile, midfield star Ndombele Tanguy is also set for a spell on the sideline after picking up a hip problem at the St Mary's. However, there is boost in Mourinho's side with Eric Dier returning to training while Heung-Min Son is also back from suspension.
