Clasico debut: Griezmann's record v Real Madrid

Stats: Griezmann’s record vs Real Madrid ahead of his Clasico debut

December 18, 2019 By Ali M.
The Frenchman will play in this fixture for the first time since joining Barcelona over the summer and will be keen on adding to his tally against Los Blancos.

There is nothing like making your El Clasico debut. This is the unforgettable experience Antoine Griezmann will enjoy today when Barcelona take on Real Madrid in the first of two La Liga encounters.

This game could not have come at a better time. It was initially scheduled to be played on October 26 but fast forward now to December 18 and the Frenchman finds himself more adapted to life at Camp Nou. However, it is his record against Los Blancos that will have Barcelona fans optimistic over an excellent debut.

The summer signing is one of many players expected to step up and help Valverde’s side earn all three points against Los Blancos. Fortunately, his goalscoring record against the club hints at that occurring.

As per Transfer Market, the 28-year-old has accumulated 25 appearances against the Madrid giants, with the bulk of those games coming in an Atletico Madrid shirt. The Frenchman contributed to 13 goals during those run-ins with Los Blancos, scoring or assisting once almost every two games.

In total, Griezmann scored eight times and assisted five in those 25 clashes with Real Madrid. His 26th encounter will be today and it comes at a time when everything is starting to click for him in Catalonia.

The 2018 World Cup winner endured a rough start to life at Camp Nou. Despite this, he has six goals and four assists in the league and an extra strike in the Champions League, contributing to three goals in his last two La Liga games (two goals and one assist).

Unfortunately, scoring past Real Madrid won’t be a walk in the park. Zidane’s men boast the joint-second best defense in the league, with only Atletico Madrid conceding fewer goals. Nonetheless, scoring past Courtois today would make this an excellent Clasico debut for the Frenchman.
