FIFA Club World Cup - How to watch Liverpool vs Monterrey on December 18, 2019

December 17, 2019 By Oscar Rojas
The Reds will return to this competition after a 14-year absence, but facing a seasoned Mexican side will not make things easy for Klopp's men.

What is Liverpool and Monterrey's form ahead of this game?

Liverpool makes it to this game in spectacular form, with an ongoing streak of 19 games without a loss in all comps. Out of those games, the Reds have won 16, with three draws completing their tally. Added to that, Klopp's men have kept three clean sheets in a row.

Monterrey gets to this game having won seven out of their last ten, with three draws during that run. Antonio Mohamed's men managed to make it to the Liga MX finals, but they had to make the trip to Qatar before playing for the title against Club América.

How did Liverpool and Monterrey get to this stage of the FIFA Club World Cup?

Winning the UEFA Champions League was enough for Liverpool to get to the semi-finals of this competition. This will be the Reds' first game in this tournament since their appearance in 2005, where they lost the final against Sao Paulo.

Monterrey won the 2019 CONCACAF Champions League for the fourth time in less than ten years, with the hopes of reaching the final intact. Rayados finished third in 2012 after losing their semi-final tie against Chelsea, and in this edition, the North American club defeated Al Sadd to reach the final four stage.

Liverpool vs Monterrey - Head-to-head

  • This will be the second meeting between these teams. The first -and only- precedent between Reds and Rayados took place back in the 1950s, when Liverpool won a 3-0 friendly.

  • This is Liverpool's second appearance in the FIFA Club World Cup. The Reds finished 2nd in 2005.

  • Monterrey is currently playing their fourth FIFA Club World Cup. They have never reached the final match, and their best finish came in 2012, when they won the third place.
