Guardiola can leave Man City this summer

Clause in Guardiola's contract could see him leave Man City at end of the season

December 13, 2019 By Ali M.
According to the latest rumors, the Spaniard can leave the Citizens once the current campaign ends.

Speculations of a Man City exit for Pep Guardiola have long been doing the rounds. However, the Daily Mail has now revealed a way in which the Spaniard could leave the reigning Premier League champions this summer.

The tactician did not stick around for long in his two only managerial spells, spending four years at Barcelona and then three seasons with Bayern Munich. The 48-year-old is currently in his fourth season at the Etihad Stadium but things haven’t gone according to plan this term.

The Citizens have dropped 16 points so far in the Premier League, suffering four defeats and drawing twice after only 16 games. As a result, they trail Liverpool by a whopping 14 points and are thus unlikely to lift the title for a third consecutive season.

Hence the exit rumors. The Daily Mail claims that there is a break clause in Pep’s contract that could allow him to leave this summer. It was inserted in last year’s extension and will require “certain stipulations that satisfy the club” to be met.

This clause means he could leave Man City this summer and would not be in breach of his contract, which runs until 2021. The report then goes on to state that the Citizens are huge admirers of Mauricio Pochettino, who is currently available after being sacked by Tottenham.

Despite all of this, the Premier League giants are still confident that the Spaniard will see out his contract. The English top-flight race might be out of reach but Sterling and Co, are into the knockout stage of the Champions League and are aiming to end their wait for a European title.
