Chelsea's record at Man City this decade

Chelsea's record at Man City in the 2010s decade ahead of Saturday's clash

November 20, 2019 By Ali M.
The Blues will take on Guardiola's hurting side this Saturday once play resumes in the Premier League.

Chelsea and Man City have been two of the most dominant sides in English football in this decade and Saturday's showdown between these two giants will be their last in the 2010s.

While there will be plenty of more encounters against the Citizens in the years to come, the Blues know the importance of winning the weekend clash. Once play resumes in the English top-flight, the London giants will have one goal and one goal only heading into Saturday and that's to beat Guardiola's side on the road.

This, however, begs the question: how have Chelsea fared at the Etihad Stadium in this soon-to-be over decade? In short, not so great.

These two clubs have locked horns on 25 occasions in the 2010s, with the first being Chelsea's 4-2 home defeat against Man City in February 2010. In fact, since the current decade began, Abramovic's side have won only eight times compared to the reigning Premier League champions' 14 triumphs, with three games ending in stalemates.

Bear in mind, those eight wins are their overall victories. At the Etihad Stadium, the club from the English capital have enjoyed only two wins, the most recent coming back in 2016/17 season when Chelsea last won the league.

To put this into perspective, the Blues have made 10 trips to the noisier side of Manchester and aside from their two wins, they have lost seven times and drawn once. This means they boast a mere 20% win percentage and a 70% loss percentage.

Chelsea's record at the Etihad Stadium in the 2010s

Games played: 10

Wins: 2

Draws: 1

Defeats: 7

Goals scored: 7

Goals conceded: 19

Furthermore, Man City have scored against the Stamford Bridge side 19 times in those 10 games, with their most recent Etihad Stadium encounter ending in a 6-0 thrashing of Chelsea. The English champions kept six clean sheets while conceding only seven times against the Blues.

Guardiola was present at the Citizens' last home defeat against the London giants, falling 3-1 against an Antonio Conte team that went on to conquer the league. Pep's side head into this game on the back of the 3-1 loss at Anfield and trail Lampard's men on goal difference, not to mention the effect the absence of Laporte (injured) and Bernardo Silva (suspended) might have. Victory is up for grabs for Chelsea. They must now overcome their past if they wish to come away with all three points.
