Bale: Playing for Wales is more exciting

Bale admits playing for Wales gets him more excited than Real Madrid

November 15, 2019 By Ali M.
This comment might not go down well with Los Blancos and the supporters.

To say life at Real Madrid hasn’t been great for Gareth Bale would be an understatement. Despite arriving in the Spanish capital back in 2013 with promise as the then world’s most expensive player, the 30-year-old is no longer an appreciated figure at Santiago Bernabeu.

The feeling between the attacker and the club could be made worse by the recent remarks he made. The former Tottenham ace is currently on international duty, recovering from injury to receive a call-up to the Wales nation team.

When comparing playing for the Dragons to playing for Los Blancos, Bale admitted that he finds donning his national team jersey more exciting. The Real Madrid man made this confession ahead of his nation’s Euro 2020 qualifier against Azerbaijan.

“I definitely have more excitement playing for Wales,” said Bale (as per the Guardian).

“I’ve been with most of the older players since we were in the under-17s. It’s like playing with your mates down the park on a Sunday.

“With Wales, I’m speaking my own language and feel more comfortable. But it doesn’t change what I do on the pitch. I always give 100% on the pitch wherever I am; that’s what I always strive to do.”

The former Tottenham ace doesn’t boast a great relationship with Zidane. The cherry on top of their rocky relationship was when the Frenchman admitted during the pre-season tour that it would be great if Bale left. Of course, the Welshman was forced to stay and the criticism kept on coming.

He was recently blasted by former Blancos attacker Predrag Mijatovic who accused the 30-year-old of prioritizing Wales and golf over the Spanish giants. Furthermore, some have even questioned his commitment after he joined up with the national team despite being unfit to play for his club.

“I’ve tried to get back [to fitness] as quick as I can,” Gareth said in response.

“If there had been a Real Madrid game this week I would’ve been fit and training to play. Maybe to them [the Spanish media] it doesn’t look great but it’s just a kind of coincidence that the national team comes around this week and I’ve returned to full training.

“If I’m fit, no matter where I am, I’m going to try and play, whether it be for Wales or Madrid. For me it was a no-brainer: if I’m fit to play then I’ll give it my all.”
