Current Form: Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund

Bayern come into this game in lousy form, to say the least. Die Roten have won just one of their last four games, with losses in two of them, and they were recently humiliated during a 5-1 thrashing at the hands of Eintracht Frankfurt that led to Niko Kovac's dismissal. Ironically, perhaps, that was Kovac's former side before he was hired as Bayern's coach, and that result was Bayern's worst Bundesliga defeat in over a decade.

With the Croatian tactician now out of a job, interim coach Hansi Flick has been handed control of the team until Bayern's executives find a replacement. Although they're only four points behind current league leaders Borussia Moenchengladbach Bayern are a side obviously used to dominating the Bundesliga, and sitting in fifth spot is something that the club's board have not been accustomed to seeing in a long time.

Still, due to how congested things are in the table, they're just one point behind upcoming visitors Dortmund, but on the flip side, are only on ahead of teams like the same Eintracht Frankfurt who thrashed them and Wolfsburg (who sit in eighth and ninth), so any further slip-ups could see the Bavarian titans tumble further down the table.

Bayern did recover from their massive loss by beating Olympiakos in the Champions League, but that was to be expected as they have been largely unstoppable in their group stage campaign so far, and Olympiakos's Champions League record is quite poor. Meanwhile, Dortmund will be brimming with confidence after coming from behind to earn a momentus 3-2 victory over Antonio Conte's Inter. Die Schwarzgelben were two goals down after the first 45, and it seemed like the Nerazzurri would then shut up shop and head back to Italy with a win in hand.

However, Achaf Hakimi proved to be the deciding factor, with his brace both halving the deficit and eventually proving to be the game-winner in an exciting game at Signal Iduna Park. With Barcelona fumbling a good chance to consolidate top spot after dropping points against Eastern European minnows Slavia Prague, Dortmund may certainly now be wondering if they just could finish their group stage campaign as quartet-winners.

But before then, they will want to again defeat Bayern in their second Kiassiker meeting of the season. Still, despite the visitors being in overall better form, coming to the Allianz Arena has not produced the results die Schwarzgelben have wanted in recent times. In fact, they have just won nine times at this ground, while losing on 31 occasions, and have not won a Bundesliga Klassiker fixture here since April 12, 2014, although they did edge out Bayern 3-2 in the DFB-Pokal in April 2017 under now-PSG boss Thomas Tuchel.

Team news: Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund

Bayern Munich: Jerome Boateng will be banned for this fixture following his early red card against Eintracht Frankfurt. In addition, both Niklas Süle and Lucas Hernandez are still out due to long-term injuries.

Borussia Dortmund: Jadon Sancho could feature in some capacity for this match after suffering a thigh injury, but he'll have to be evaluated first. However, Marco Reus's long-documented injury woes seem to have returned and he's not likely to feature. Notably, Paco Alcacer could also get some more game-time after featuring and looking quite solid for about 30 minutes against Inter, where he picked up an assist shortly after coming off the bench.
