Sancho eyes Bayern revenge ahead of Der Klassiker

Bayern Munich vs Borussia Dortmund: Sancho eyes revenge ahead of Der Klassiker

November 8, 2019 By Emmanuel K. Budu-Annor
The English youngster want the Bavarians to pay for what they did to his side last season.

Borussia Dortmund starlet Jadon Sancho is keen on getting revenge with his side ahead of Sunday's classic showdown with Bayern Munich. The English playmaker has issued a rally cry to his teammates as Die BVB aims to avenge last season's 5-0 thrashing at the hands of their league rivals.

In the fixture which ultimately decided where the Bundesliga title was headed, the men from Westfalenstadion conceded four goals in the first 45 minutes of proceedings at the Allianz Arena. A minute before full-time, Robert Lewandowski put the finishing gloss on for the hosts by firing home the last goal of the game.

Having been on the winning side on two occasions in the last three meetings with Bayern, Sancho feels buoyed about the chances of Dortmund and seeks vindication for last season's disastrous performance. The Bavarians come into the fixture having sacked former manager Niko Kovac following a 5-0 defeat to Eintracht Frankfurt.

"I think when we go to Munich we want revenge," Sancho told Dortmund's official YouTube channel.

"There's pressure on both teams. Bayern have some crucial injuries and changed their manager. I picked up a knock against Inter, Marco [Reus] might be out and Paco [Alcacer] is only coming back. Whoever has the most desire will come out on top.

"These are the games I love to play in, the big games. It's going to be a good game. I'm very excited. Hopefully I should be there on Saturday. I'd like to be there."

Despite earning a reputation as one of the brightest emerging stars, Sancho is yet to hit the ground running this season. The attacker who finished last season with 13 goals and more than 20 assists has managed just four goals in 11 games.

"It's been a hard month, as a player you always want to do well for the team," Sancho said.

"I want to assist and score goals every game. Some games are just not meant to be. I've worked hard in training to keep trying new things but you've seen that there are other players that are impressing like [Achraf] Hakimi and [Julian] Brandt.

"That's what so good about our team. We don't rely on one or two players. I'm going to bounce back, keep my head straight and keep focused."

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund met at the beginning of the season and it was the latter that secured a 2-0 victory the clinch the German Supercup. Sancho scored and assisted another in the win.
