Current form: Brazil vs Canada

After losing 2-1 in extra time to hosts France at this summer's World Cup, Brazil have been slowly getting back on track. The Seleção come into the upcoming edition of the Yongchuan Tournament having won three of their last four games, and are presently on a two game winning streak. That includes a 2-1 win over powerhouse side England in a friendly back in October, and Pia Sundhage will certainly want to see her side pick up some positive momentum with the 2020 Olympic Games not too far on the horizon.

Canada, by contrast, have seen a dip in form as of late. Frustratingly, they started out their World Cup campaign off brightly, beating both Cameroon and New Zealand without conceding a goal - only to see things go awry against the Netherlands, and they haven't recovered since. In fact, since beating New Zealand back on June 15, Canada have failed to win a single match and are presently on a three game losing streak across all competitions.

However, those three losses are the only they've suffered all year. Prior to this, they had gone ten games (seven wins, three draws) sans defeat, so certainly, coach Kenneth Heiner-Møller will naturally hope that this is just a minor blip. It's also important to note that all three of their lossses - against the Netherlands, Sweden, and Japan - were against fellow top-ten sides, so none were versus teams below Canada's level.

Brazil certainly will pose a stiff challenge, however, and they will have an added incentive to get one over on Canada: In 2016, Canada beat Brazil in the bronze-medal match to clinch third spot at the hosts' expense.

Team news: Brazil vs Canada

Brazil: Impressively, after appearing at the 2019 World Cup, and making history as the eldest player to feature at the tournament in the process, the evergreen 41-year-old midfielder Formiga has been called up for this latest squad for the fifth edition of the Yongchuan Tournament. She's a whopping 20 years older than her youngest teammate, Geyse, who plays her club football for Benfica as a striker.

Meanwhile, Cristiane, who played for the team during this summer's tournament, is not part of the traveling party as she has since retired from the squad.

Canada: The team will be led by veteran striker Christine Sinclair, but on the opposite end of the spectrum is 15-year-old Olivia Smith. To put that in perspective, she was born in 2004. Sinclair is 36, so yes, she's pretty much old enough to be her parent (or an aunt, at least).
