The attacker is expected to be sidelined once again after recently returning from an injury spell.

La Liga leaders Barcelona have been hit with a massive blow with striker Luis Suarez picking up an injury in Saturday's defeat against Levante. A medical update issued at the end of the encounter revealed that the Uruguayan striker picked up a knock to his right calf.

Suarez barely lasted 45 minutes in the weekend's league fixture as a tackle from Carlos Clerc in the course of the proceeding forced his substitution a few minutes before half-time. The fortunes of his side were subsequently thrown in disarray with the Catalans conceding thrice in the space of seven minutes inside the second half before Lionel Messi pulled one back via a spot-kick.

A medical report issued in effect revealed that Suarez has a lesion in the right leg and, as a result, remains under assessment until further notice.

"The tests carried out this afternoon have shown that Luis Suárez has a lesion in the right leg," Barcelona's official Twitter account tweeted.

"Therefore, he is currently not available for selection, and the evolution of the injury will determine his availability."

Suarez's latest injury could pose more trouble for Barcelona considering how instrumental he has been in the past month. Since returning from the injury he sustained against Athletic Club, the 32-year-old Uruguayan has managed six goals in La Liga.

While the extent of his injury is yet to be determined, the forward is expected to miss upcoming games against Slavia Prague and Celta Vigo before possibly returning to action after the international break.
