The Uruguayan couldn't bear to see what his team-mate went through.

The talk that has dominated Arsenal's collapse against Crystal Palace has been the drama between Granit Xhaka and the fans. Not much has been said by his team-mates on the incident but Lucas Torreira's reaction has now been revealed.

The Swiss midfielder was taken off in the second half after the Gunners threw away a 2-0 lead to go level at 2-2. However, upon seeing his number go up, several of the Emirates Stadium goers opted to cheer his exit, which has happened before.

The jeers quickly turned into boos after the upset Arsenal captain failed to run off the pitch, which resulted in him cupping his ears, goading the fans, and telling them to "f*** off". All mayhem has broken loose since then, with fans, legends, and pundits joining forces in criticizing the skipper.

However, one post reveals another side to the story. Famous Arsenal photographer Stuart MacFarlane captured Torreira's reaction to this ugly incident on camera, as the Uruguayan was brought to tears by the abuse Xhaka received.

In a separate picture, he can be seen being consoled by Bellerin. This just shows that despite the anger from the fans, there are still many at the club who respect and love the Swiss midfielder.

All eyes are now on Emery and how he will react to this situation. The manager admitted that the player as in the wrong to react in such a manner and that his actions will be dealt with internally. As to whether he will be stripped of the captaincy, Unai refused to answer.

According to the Athletic, Xhaka, who ripped off the jersey and went straight for the tunnel, reportedly left the ground early before the game had even ended. He was later visited at his home by three senior players who offered him comfort, but it remains unknown who those men are.
