Mbappe breaks Messi's UCL record

Mbappe breaks Messi’s UCL record with 31-minute hat-trick vs Club Brugge

October 23, 2019 By Ali M.
The Frenchman reached a number of other feats with his three-goal haul on Tuesday.

In case you missed it, PSG continued their perfect start to the Champions League season, smashing Club Brugge 5-0. One man stole the show in that game and that player was none other than Kylian Mbappe.

The Frenchman put in a Man of the Match display, having a hand in all but one of the five goals scored despite only coming on as a second-half substitute. The 2018 World Cup winner netted a superb hat-trick while assisting Mauro Icardi to take home the match ball.

Mbappe thus made the headlines, and understandably so, after setting a few records and reaching a few feats, one of which saw him break a record previously held by Lionel Messi.

The PSG ace became the youngest player in Champions League history to score 15 goals at the age of 20 years and 306 days, beating out Leo’s milestone by almost a year. He also became the fastest substitute to score a hat-trick, completing his three-goal haul 31 minutes after coming on.

The last player to score three goals from the bench prior to the20-year-old was Villarreal’s Joseba Llorente in October 2008, meaning the Ligue 1 sensation achieved something no other player has in over a decade. Furthermore, the fact that he added an assist means he is also the first player in the last 10 Champions League seasons to contribute to four goals as a substitute.

The 5-0 win over Club Brugge strengthens Les Parisiens odds of winning the group. They have now picked up nine points out of nine and boast a five-point lead over second-placed Real Madrid.
