Zidane's job on the line in Galatasaray clash

Zidane’s job reportedly on the line in Galatasaray clash, replacement being readied

October 22, 2019 By Ali M.
According to sources, Real Madrid's trip to Turkey could be a do-or-die game for the Frenchman.

Zinedine Zidane’s future at Real Madrid has been under heavy scrutiny this season, with some reports going as far as stating that his job is on the line in the upcoming clash with Galatasaray.

Los Blancos will take on the Turkish giants once play resumes in the Champions League on Tuesday. This showdown follows their recent defeat in La Liga, suffering a shock 1-0 loss against Real Mallorca to surrender the lead to rivals Barcelona.

Several sources now claim his job is under fire after that defeat, with the likes of Marca and the Mirror writing that their midweek European game is do-or-die for the Frenchman. The World Cup winner doesn’t boast the backing of the entire board, with many losing faith in Zidane.

The belief of among those who have lost faith in the current boss is that he was not the right man to steer the ship after their disastrous spells under Lopetegui and then Solari. They argue that reappointing the Frenchman was a mistake despite leading the Spanish giants to three consecutive Champions League titles.

They point to the 7-3 loss to Atletico Madrid over the summer and the 3-0 defeat against PSG in the Champions League as proof. Real Madrid currently sit dead bottom in group A behind Les Parisiens, Club Brugge, and Galatasaray. Victory over Tuesday’s opponent would spare Zidane’s blushes but it would be a small lifeline.

The report goes a step further by saying Jose Mourinho is being lined up to replace the World Cup winner, which is nothing new. Speculations of a second Santiago Bernabeu spell for the Special One are nothing new. The Portuguese tactician is highly respected among the Real Madrid higher-ups and given his availability, would be attainable at any time.
