Portugal might have suffered a 2-1 defeat in their Euro 2020 qualifier against Ukraine, but the deadlines were dominated by one thing; one man: Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 34-year-old scored his nation's sole goal as they left without a single point. The reigning European champions were 2-0 down and received a penalty, which the Juventus superstar converted with ease as usual.
That second-half strike saw him reach an amazing feat, scoring his 700th goal in his professional career. He is now one of only six players in history to pull this off, the other five being Josef Bican (805 goals), Pelé (779), Romario (748), Ferenc Puskas (709) and Gerd Müller (701).
To commemorate this unforgettable moment, the five-time Ballon d'Or winner took to social media to express his joy over this landmark. He took no joy in losing the qualifier but marked this moment with a compilation video of some of his finest strikes from his 700 goals. Watch in the video below.
Thanks to the 2-1 win, Ukraine have now won Group B and have thus sealed one of two tickets to Euro 2020. The other remains up for grabs, with Portugal boasting a mere one-point lead over third-placed Serbia in the group with only two games remaining.
