Los Blancos have set their sight on securing one of Europe's top goal scoring midfielders.

Real Madrid is reportedly eyeing a sensational move for Ajax starlet Donny van De Beek. The Spanish heavyweights are said to have leapfrogged Manchester United in the race for the Dutchman after the latter refused to meet the Amsterdam club's valuation of the midfielder.

Earlier this summer, the uncertainty surrounding Paul Pogba's future caused Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side to identify potential replacements should the Frenchman complete a move to either Real Madrid or Juventus.  One of such players was Van de Beek who was sensational for Ajax in the 2018/2019 campaign - both domestically and on the international front.

As a result, Ajax slapped a $43 million price-tag on the 22-year-old Netherlands international, one which eventually played a role in Manchester United terminating his pursuit. The decision that Paul Pogba will remain at the club also outrightly ruled out the need for reinforcement.

It's been barely a month since the transfer window shut close across Europe's top leagues but English publication Mirror claims Real Madrid is keen on acquiring the service of Van de Beek's. As per the report, Los Blancos are willing to match the midfielder's price tag which has tripled in since Manchester United made the approach.

Zidane's side will be required to pay an approximate amount of $123 million to Ajax if it seeks to make the midfielder a member of his current roaster. Back in August, the men in White reportedly came close to bringing the Dutchman to the Bernabeu but a move could not materialize before the window was closed.

This season, Donny van de Beek has already featured in 11 matches for Ajax and has managed three goals. The midfielder finished last season with 17 goals in 57 appearamces.
